DawgDelay-201 Tape Echo Plugin Released for Mac and iPad

DawgPound Audio has released DawgDelay-201, a new tape echo plugin that recreates vintage 70s hardware. It is available for macOS and iPadOS. The plugin offers twelve modes using three virtual tape heads and a spring tank. It captures the wow, flutter, hiss, and record-head saturation of the original units. Moreover, it adds modern features like independent left and right tape speeds, tempo sync, and an assignable LFO.

Three Tape Heads and a Spring Tank

The plugin includes every combination of the three tape heads. Four modes run the spring tank with the echo, while one mode runs the tank alone. The display shows which heads are active. Additionally, the tape behavior is modeled with motor inertia, creating smooth speed changes. Wow, flutter, hiss, and saturation each have individual controls.

Independent Left and Right Control

Two repeat rates can be linked or separated. A Rate Offset control allows up to five percent difference, creating width without detuning. The plugin also includes Ping-Pong and Mid/Side routing options. For instance, you can create spacious echoes easily. The modeled spring tank has controls for decay, tone, and volume. It is fed in parallel from the dry signal, producing the metallic sound of the original hardware.

Synced or Free Modulation

Repeat and LFO rates can lock to the host tempo independently. Settings range from whole notes to thirty-second notes in straight, dotted, or triplet timings. The LFO provides sine, triangle, square, and sample-and-hold shapes. It can be assigned to repeat rate, pan, reverb mix, or tone. As a result, you have flexible modulation options.

Runaway Feedback Without Risk

Setting Intensity to maximum causes intentional self-oscillation. A permanent output limiter outside the feedback loop prevents clipping. Therefore, you can use runaway feedback as a controlled effect. The interface includes three skins: graphite NOIR, green Classic, and modern Neon.Features
