Jam Pad: Free Offline-First Recording Organiser for Musicians

Music software developer Helgoboss Projects has announced the availability of Jam Pad, a cross-platform application designed to help musicians organise their recordings and the important moments inside them. The app is available as a free download for Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, and Windows.

An Offline-First Approach to Recording Management

Many musicians record constantly, whether improvisations, rehearsals, or practice sessions. However, finding those key moments again later is often difficult. As a result, valuable ideas end up forgotten on hard drives and smartphones. Jam Pad addresses this problem by treating recordings as more than plain audio files.

Users can import existing recordings from files, folders, handheld recorders, or cloud storage. In addition, new recordings can be captured directly within the app. Musicians can then build structured spaces containing comments, markers, playlists, and richly formatted sheets with embedded, playable references to important passages.

Review Tools and Discovery Features

Jam Pad is built around the idea that reviewing recordings deserves as much attention as creating them. For instance, visual review heat maps show which parts of a recording have already been listened to and which still need attention. Moreover, comments, filtering, ratings, search, and tagging make navigating large collections easier.

On mobile devices, acoustic feedback and Bluetooth remote control allow users to create markers, rate passages, or record voice notes without taking the phone out of a pocket. Therefore, recordings can be reviewed while walking or commuting.

Collaboration and Synchronisation Options

By default, Jam Pad works completely offline without an account. Alternatively, users can synchronise selected workspaces across their own devices via Wi-Fi using a one-time in-app purchase. Furthermore, private cloud spaces enable bands, producers, students, and teachers to review recordings together, edit sheets, and exchange comments. Notably, only owners of a shared cloud space require a subscription, while invited collaborators participate for free.

Pricing and Availability

Jam Pad is free to download on all platforms, and most features are available at no cost. Premium features can be unlocked individually as one-time purchases or through an optional Pro subscription that includes cloud storage plans ranging from 100 GB to 500 GB. A 14-day free trial of the Pro subscription is available. Linux is currently offered as an early access release.
