Monumatic Polyphonic Synthesizer: 8-Voice Eurorack Module

Overview of the Monumatic Synthesizer

The Monumatic is a compact 12HP Eurorack module that combines an 8-voice fully polyphonic synthesizer with a monophonic synthesizer. It offers a versatile sound engine based on 16 selectable oscillator modes, all using virtual analog algorithms. This design allows for a broad spectrum of tones, ranging from classic analog sounds to futuristic textures.

Oscillator Modes and Sound Generation

The module includes a variety of oscillator types modeled without samples, ensuring authentic analog-style sound generation. Among the oscillator modes are the Roland super-saw, Polymoog vox humana, Casio phase distortion, Solina string synth, percussive drawbar organs, “noisy cassette” strings, pulse width modulation, asymmetric sync saw, and sync square. Each oscillator’s timbre can be finely adjusted using the Detune control, providing a rich foundation for further sound shaping.

Filter and Effects Section

Monumatic features six powerful filter types to sculpt the sound further. These include a vowel filter for vocal effects, a 24db/oct Low Pass Butterworth filter, a 12db/oct Low Pass SVF, a dual peak notch filter, a phase shifter, and a high pass SVF. Each filter can be driven harder using the drive setting, adding character and warmth to the sound.

Control and Modulation

The module emphasizes simplicity and versatility, with minimal controls that avoid complex preset navigation. It supports full analog control of every parameter via two assignable CV inputs, along with additional CV inputs for Gate, V/Oct, and filter cutoff. Digital control is also available through comprehensive MIDI CC and MPE implementation, allowing seamless integration into various setups.

Polyphonic Features and Micro-Tuning

Monumatic includes eight built-in chord presets that can be custom programmed for polyphonic stabs and pads using a single CV/Gate input. It supports polyphonic arpeggios and can “pluck” notes with long release times by distributing extra voices as needed. The module can switch between polyphonic and legato monophonic modes with a button press.

Additionally, Monumatic introduces an advanced micro-tuning system to modular synthesis. This system can emulate the organic drift of vintage analog oscillators or apply real-time tuning temperaments with adaptive ‘just’ intonation. This feature can also be assigned to CV control for dynamic tuning adjustments.
