Phaseburn One Public Beta: PLL-Based Synth & FX

Phaseburn has released a public beta of Phaseburn One, a groove synthesizer and effects processor built around a phase-locked loop (PLL). This new software instrument is available for Windows and macOS in VST3, AU, and CLAP formats. The beta is free to use until October 15, 2026.

A phase-locked loop is a circuit from radio electronics. It has also appeared in Eurorack modules and guitar pedals. Phaseburn One gives the PLL an extensive set of controls and modulation options. The PLL can also process external audio as an effect. Consequently, it works as both a synth voice and an audio effect unit.

Sound Engine and Oscillators

The sound engine pairs the PLL with two oscillators and a sub oscillator. One oscillator is a morph oscillator that blends between multiple wave shapes. The other is a vector oscillator based on vector synthesis. Moreover, an internal sequencer is included, allowing rhythmic patterns without external gear.

Modular Effects and Routing

The effects section is fully modular. A patchbay lets you route any module into any other. As a result, you can build complex signal chains efficiently. The DSP engine is written in Rust and uses 64-bit processing with oversampling. This ensures high precision and low aliasing.

Features

  • PLL core with extensive controls and modulation, usable as a synth voice or as an audio effect
  • Morph oscillator, which morphs between multiple wave shapes
  • Vector oscillator based on vector synthesis
  • Sub oscillator
  • Internal sequencer
  • Modular effects section with a free-routing patchbay
