Stryde Audio Swayed: Hybrid FM & PCM Synth

Stryde Audio has introduced Swayed, a new synthesizer plugin for modern music production. This instrument is meticulously modeled after a renowned 1989 synthesizer, celebrated for its innovative combination of FM (Frequency Modulation) synthesis with sample-based (PCM) synthesis. Consequently, this hybrid architecture enables producers to craft an extensive array of unique timbres. These sounds can range from highly realistic acoustic emulations to complex, purely synthetic textures, and everything in between.

Unlocking Classic and Modern Tones

A key feature of Swayed is its remarkable patch compatibility. Users can readily access the vast library of sounds originally created for the hardware it emulates, specifically the Yamaha SY77/TG77. This is achieved through the import of existing SysEx files. Furthermore, patches designed within Swayed can also be exported as SysEx files, allowing them to be loaded directly into the original hardware. This bidirectional compatibility offers significant flexibility for both vintage gear enthusiasts and contemporary producers.

Advanced Synthesis Engines

Swayed’s core lies in its dual synthesis engines. Firstly, the advanced FM synthesis module is robust, featuring six operators. It also includes 15 distinct waveforms, offering a broad sonic palette. Moreover, users can configure up to three feedback paths, which significantly enhances the complexity and richness of the FM sounds. This module is further complemented by 45 different algorithms, providing extensive routing options for intricate sound design. Secondly, the PCM synthesis module excels at playing back multi-samples. This allows for the integration of detailed, sampled textures into the hybrid sound design process.

Sound Shaping and Modulation

To sculpt the generated sounds, Swayed incorporates a digital filter section. Both the FM and PCM elements can be processed through a dual-resonant filter setup. This includes one Low-Pass/High-Pass filter and an additional Low-Pass filter, each featuring 12 dB/octave slopes. In addition, the plugin offers comprehensive modulation capabilities. Individual operator and sample volumes can be automated using dedicated envelopes. Similarly, pitch and filter cutoff parameters also benefit from envelope control. For further dynamic movement, two LFOs (Low-Frequency Oscillators) are available, providing additional modulation sources for various parameters.

Integrated Effects and Dynamic Panning

Swayed also features a versatile effects section. Producers can choose from 44 different effect types to impart extra character to their sounds. These include commonly used effects such as chorus, flanger, delay, reverb, and distortion. Moreover, these effects can be routed in three distinct configurations, offering creative flexibility in the signal chain. Beyond effects, the plugin includes a dynamic pan module. Users can select from 64 panning envelopes, which are designed to create rich, evolving stereoscopic sound fields. This feature allows for intricate spatialization and adds depth to the overall sound.
