Transwarp μ-Series: Euclidean & Wavetable Synths
The newly established UK-based software studio, Transwarp Development Project, has officially launched its inaugural products: the μ-clid and μ-tant plugins. These instruments are part of the innovative μ-series, designed specifically for electronic music producers, particularly those working within the techno and psychedelic genres. The development project aims to introduce a growing family of creative tools, each meticulously crafted to push the boundaries of rhythm, synthesis, and live performance capabilities.
μ-clid: Euclidean Rhythm Sequencer
Initially, μ-clid stands out as an 8-track Euclidean sequencer coupled with a sample player and comprehensive mixing features. It empowers producers to drive samples with mathematical precision. In detail, it combines three independent Euclidean layers per track. One layer is dedicated to accent, while the other two combine through boolean logic gates. This unique combination allows for the generation of complex yet inherently musical patterns that would be challenging for humans to program manually. Hits trigger internal samples, which can then be extensively manipulated through various filters and effects. Furthermore, up to eight modulation controllers provide detailed control over these parameters, offering vast sound design possibilities.
μ-tant: Wavetable Drone Sequencer
Similarly, μ-tant is an 8-track sound generator, focusing on evolving textures. Each voice within μ-tant is built around a twin-oscillator wavetable drone, which is then gated through its dedicated sequencer. This instrument features the same robust collection of filter types, effects and modulation capabilities that are common across the entire μ-range. Consequently, users can sculpt permanent dual-oscillator wavetable drones with FM and ring modulation. Per-step control of gate, filter, and pitch is available across up to 16 bars, allowing for intricate and dynamic soundscapes, ideal for creating deep, evolving pads and rhythmic drones.
Shared Architecture and Live Performance
Both μ-clid and μ-tant, along with future μ-series products, share a common mixer and modulation architecture. This shared foundation ensures a consistent workflow despite different sound engines. Each instrument provides eight MSEG or stepped-sequence modulators per track, which can be routed to any parameter, offering profound sound shaping. Moreover, all tracks feed into a full mixer equipped with per-channel sidechain capabilities. This means any track can duck any other, or even respond to an external host signal.
For instance, a μ-clid kick can easily pump a μ-tant drone pad, creating classic electronic music textures. The system also includes three send effects and two master insert slots for further processing. In addition, individual outputs are available per track, allowing for flexible routing in a DAW. Ultimately, any sequence or voice can be swapped live, either manually or via MIDI Program Change, without interrupting playback, making these tools highly suitable for dynamic live performances.
Availability and Pricing
As new products from a new company, μ-clid and μ-tant are available as Windows VST3 and CLAP plug-ins. There is an introductory price for each plugin. Furthermore, Transwarp Development Project offers a free μ-clid LITE version for download, which provides a single track of Euclidean generation for MIDI notes. A future product, μ-link, will be a standalone app for Windows, designed to connect and synchronize multiple μ-series instances into a single performance tool, and it will be available free of charge upon its release.
