Arturia MiniFreak 5.0 adds wavetable and sample import

Arturia has released version 5.0 of its MiniFreak synth. This free update introduces user sample and wavetable import, plus a new factory bank with 23 presets. The MiniFreak is a multi-engine polysynth that works as both hardware and software.

New import capabilities

You can now load your own WAV, AIFF, and FLAC samples. The MiniFreak converts them and lets you shape them using its granular engines. The sample format is 12-bit at 32 kHz, and you can use up to six seconds of audio. This opens up creative possibilities for custom textures and sound design.

Similarly, you can import mono wavetables from external libraries, including Pigments. The wavetable engine processes them in 24-bit, 512-point resolution. Consequently, you can twist and morph these waveforms on the fly. This brings fresh sonic material to the hardware and software versions.

Factory Presets and Vocoder

Version 5.0 also introduces a brand new factory bank with 23 presets. These feature exclusive sample and wavetable content. In addition, version 4.0 had already brought a vocoder effect. This offers two modes. The Ext In mode connects external audio, like a microphone, for classic vocoder voices. The Self Vocoder mode uses the internal sounds without any external signal. Both modes are available via the same interface.

Moreover, 12 factory presets were added with that update. They showcase robotic voicings, retro colors, and futuristic resonances. You can also update your firmware for free via the MiniFreak V software. The process is straightforward and quick.
