Fred Anton Corvest has unveiled FAC Bandit 2, an updated version of its multiband audio effect plugin. At its core, FAC Bandit 2 functions as a 3-band multi-effects processor. The plugin meticulously splits an audio signal into three independent frequency bands: low, mid, and high. Each of these bands can then be processed with its own distinct effect, subsequently allowing for highly granular sound shaping. Afterward, the processed bands are recombined to form the final output. Users can precisely define the frequency ranges for these bands through two adjustable crossover points, which feature slopes up to 48dB for sharp frequency separation. This functionality, moreover, enables a DJ-style frequency isolator equalizer for dynamic filtering.

Diverse Effects for Creative Sound Design

FAC Bandit 2 offers a selection of five distinct effects that can be applied independently to each frequency band. These include a Saturator, providing tube-like distortion with various models such as Soft, Hard, BPF, and BELL, each with Drive, PreGain, and Pre/Post Filter controls. Furthermore, a LoFi effect recreates the character of vintage samplers, featuring Rate, Bit depth, and Filter parameters, alongside Classic, Dither, Rizer, and Jitter models. For adding inharmonic content, a Ring Modulator is included, capable of producing percussive, metallic, or bell-like sounds with Note, Waveshape, and Tone controls. Additionally, a Delay effect offers tempo-based echoes with Feedback, Division, and Color controls, featuring Ping Pong LR, Inv Ping Pong, and Stereo Echo models. Finally, a Reverb module allows for recreating various sonic environments, complete with Size, Pre Delay, and Damp parameters, offering Small, Room, Hall, Big, and Abyss models. Each effect, therefore, provides a mix blending control to balance the dry and wet signals within its respective band.

Advanced Control and Workflow Enhancements

The plugin’s design emphasizes detailed control. Each band features individual gain, mute, and solo controls, which are useful for maintaining tonal balance and auditioning effects. A notable feature is the ‘Linked Controls’ mode; when activated, touching one parameter for a band proportionally adjusts the corresponding parameters across all other bands, streamlining workflow. Moreover, FAC Bandit 2 supports multi-output routing, meaning each band can be sent to separate channels within a compatible host application. This offers advanced mixing and further processing possibilities. A master Brickwall limiter is also available, offering Brickwall, Hard, or Off options for output level management.
