Kirin Mastering has officially launched Kirin OS 1.0, a new standalone application for macOS and Windows designed to streamline audio measurement, version comparison, and production record-keeping. This software aims to provide music producers and mastering engineers with a dedicated environment for analyzing audio files and managing project assets efficiently. The application focuses on measurement and organization without altering the source audio itself.

Upon dropping an audio file into Kirin OS, the software immediately initiates a comprehensive measurement process. The READ function provides song-level data, including loudness, True Peak, LRA (Loudness Range), stereo width, phase, and dynamics. Furthermore, the INSPECT feature identifies and lists detected hiss, click, and crackle events, complete with timecodes, allowing for precise review.

Advanced Comparison Tools

For comparing multiple audio files or stems, Kirin OS offers specialized tools. The MASKING function visually represents where two or more files overlap across time and 24 Bark bands, providing detailed insight into frequency conflicts. Additionally, the TRACE feature integrates with the free Kirin Hypha plug-in, receiving PRE/POST measurements directly from a DAW, which is invaluable for evaluating processing chains.

Beyond measurement, Kirin OS excels in project organization. Each “Work” in the application can store not only measurement records but also various versions of a track, individual stems, credits, production notes, artwork, release details, and rights metadata. This consolidated approach ensures that all related files and information remain together, preventing confusion. Users can switch between different versions at the same playback position, facilitating direct comparisons.
