Each preset in MESS allows the combination of four effects without restrictions on which effect each track contains. This flexibility enables running a reverb into a delay or layering spectralizers with bitcrushers to create vibrant tones suitable for various instruments. With over 120 effects available, including modulation, delay, reverb, granular, glitch, pitch shifting, and more, MESS opens doors to unexpected sonic possibilities.

MESS offers advanced sequencer capabilities typical of Polyend instruments. Users can control per-track speed and length to create polyrhythmic or polymetric sequences. Additionally, chance options facilitate complex generative effects that evolve continuously, ensuring that reverbs bloom, delays evolve rhythmically, and modulations shift in sync with the tempo.
Extensive Reverb, Delay, and Granular Engines
The pedal includes seven core reverb types with multiple sub-modes, ranging from lush ambient spaces to tight room simulations and modulated plates. Delay modes cover warm analog, LoFi, clean digital repeats, and rhythmic patterns such as single, multi-tap, and ping-pong. Granular and Glitcher engines provide nine versatile modes to fragment or blur signals, enabling tightly synced granulation or real-time microsound manipulation.
Additional Sound Shaping and Pitch Shifting Options
Users can shape sounds with saturation, overdrives, bitcrushing, sample rate reduction, EQs, and filters. Pitch shifting is available through spectral engines and dedicated pitch-shifters with monophonic tracking, allowing re-harmonization or full musical sequencing from a single note. Repeater algorithms enable microlooping, repitching, arpeggiation, and tape-stop style effects with per-step chance controls for randomized loops and stutters.

MESS functions as both an avant-garde idea generator and a straightforward pedalboard replacement. Effects can be activated independently of the sequencer, except for those reliant on sequencing. The pedal supports deep sound design with stackable effects and an intuitive interface featuring a 16-step grid pad and dedicated knobs for each function.
