Skorpion Waveform Reanimator: Advanced 8-Stage Analog Wavefolder Module
Introducing the Skorpion Waveform Reanimator by WMD
After five years of development and refinement, WMD has unveiled the Skorpion Waveform Reanimator, an innovative 8-stage analog wavefolder designed to transform simple waveforms into complex, evolving sounds. This module represents WMD’s commitment to “New Sounds, Maximum Experience,” combining a thoughtfully designed user interface with extensive CV inputs and controls to offer a broad range of harmonic textures and sonic character.
Unique Wavefolding Technology and Features
The Skorpion builds on WMD founder William’s expertise in experimental module design by introducing a novel wavefolding method. It uses thresholds and target voltages to control a powerful vector core, blending high-speed CMOS technology with precise analog circuitry and a hybrid digital overlay for a robust and intuitive interface.
Features
- 8-stage analog wavefolder with precise waveform mangling
- Hands-on fader interface for direct control
- Internal modulation sources including a macro envelope, eight threshold LFOs, and four CV modulators
- Controls for SHAPE, SLOPE, FOLD, SHIFT, and OUTPUT to shape harmonics and timbre
- 1V/OCT CV input for tracking timbre across notes
- Selectable output modes: DRY, WET, and mid-side stereo WIDE processing
- SYNC modes for vector core reset and modulation
- Macro setup mode for adjusting envelope times and LFO rates
- Multiple CV inputs for threshold and target modulation
- Stereo outputs with advanced vector core processing
Modulation and Control Capabilities
The Skorpion offers extensive modulation options. Its macro envelope provides attack, hold, and release stages that modulate all LFOs simultaneously, enabling rich, evolving harmonic movement. The module also includes threshold LFOs and CV modulators that can function as LFOs or envelopes, allowing for complex parameter animation. Users can switch between controlling thresholds, targets, or macro setup parameters using a dedicated switch and sliders.
Production and Availability
Currently in its ninth and final prototype phase, the Skorpion is expected to ship in September or October, though this timeline may be affected by parts sourcing and tariffs. WMD plans a limited production run based on preorder demand, with price locked preorders to avoid fluctuations due to external factors.
WMD emphasizes sustainability by manufacturing with lead-free processes and reducing single-use plastics in packaging. The product will comply with RoHS, CE, and WEEE standards and comes with a 12-month warranty.
