Palora: Polyphonic Virtual-Analog Synth with AI-crafted Presets

Segment CPH, a fresh developer founded by Peter Bojesen, has just introduced its first plugin, Palora. This polyphonic virtual-analog synthesizer is now available for macOS and Windows in VST3, AU, and standalone formats. Palora aims to be both straightforward and flexible, offering sounds suitable for a complete electronic track. It includes twin morphing oscillators, a sub oscillator, and a per-note click generator, so each voice can deliver its own character.

Oscillators and Filter

Palora’s two oscillators can morph continuously from saw to triangle to sine. You also get pulse width modulation, hard sync, and a dedicated sub oscillator. The 4-pole ladder filter provides two distinct characters: a warm, self-saturating Analog mode and a pristine Modern mode. Moreover, every voice features its own transient shaper, giving you precise control over attack snap and sustain weight. This per-voice approach sets Palora apart from many competitors.

Modulation and Effects

An extensive modulation matrix offers 264 routings, all usable simultaneously. You’ll find three LFOs, a spare envelope, a per-note random source, two macros, velocity, key tracking, mod wheel, and aftertouch. The arpeggiator/step sequencer extends to 24 steps, with swing and tempo sync. Additionally, a five-stage effects chain—Drive, Chorus, Delay, Reverb, and EQ—lets you shape the final sound efficiently.

Presets and AI Integration

Palora ships with 310 factory presets, spanning Pluck, Bass, Pad, Lead, Keys, Stab, and Drone categories. Most of these were initially generated by an AI and then hand-polished by Bojesen. The preset format is open and human-readable, allowing an AI assistant to craft presets or entire banks from plain-language descriptions. This innovative approach simplifies preset sharing and customization. Furthermore, presets play themselves as you browse, which is a handy time-saver.

Palora is available at an intro price of €47.40, which is 40% off the regular €79. A full-featured 14-day trial is also on offer. Activation happens offline, with no account or iLok required.
