Xoradora: Mutagene’s Resynth Drum Machine Enters Open Beta
Mutagene has released Xoradora 1.0.0-beta.1, a drum machine built around sample resynthesis. Instead of post-processing effects, the plugin analyses each loaded sample and rebuilds it using one of seven parametric sound models. The result ranges from subtle timbral tweaks to completely alien percussive textures.
Seven Resynthesis Models
Each model takes a different analytical view of the source material. Warp separates attack from body, Halo splits spectral colour from fine texture, and Hull isolates ringing tones so they can be tuned independently. Prism tracks low, middle, and high movement, while Grain rebuilds sounds from overlapping slices for controllable digital damage. Strata learns percussive roles like strike, body, air, and tail, and Strand divides material into tone, attacks, and noise.
At neutral settings the resynthesised result stays close to the original. However, moving parameters away from neutral changes the shell, impact, texture, or gesture of the sample. Many parameters can be modulated by LFOs or an envelope follower on external audio.
Workflow and Features
Xoradora ships as a sixteen-pad instrument with a modulation matrix, choke groups, per-pad Trigger/Gate, and MIDI and microtuning support. Moreover, an interactive Guided mode explains every parameter and visualises the model in action. Bounce and resampling let you transform a pad in place and reshape it again.
Features
- Sixteen-pad sample-triggering instrument
- Seven resynthesis models (Warp, Halo, Hull, Prism, Grain, Strata, Strand)
- Modulation matrix, per-pad envelopes, and LFOs
- Interactive Guided view with visualisations
- Evolution tool for breeding sound variations
- Bounce/resampling in place, to other pads, or to file
- Four stereo output buses plus main outputs
- Sample import: folders, SFZ, Hydrogen, .xorakit kits
- Standalone sequencer (16/32/64 steps) and Phone Link remote pads
Formats and Availability
Xoradora runs on macOS (VST3, AU, CLAP, Standalone) and Windows (VST3, CLAP, Standalone). In addition, iOS AUv3 and Standalone versions are under development, and Linux and AAX may follow depending on demand. A trial mutes audio for five seconds every ten minutes.
The plugin is currently in public beta at €44 / $49. The price will increase once version 1.0 is reached.
Price
Beta: 44.00 € / $49.00 USD
Regular: TBA (price increases at 1.0)
