Audiofier Overflow: Cinematic Sound Design for Kontakt

Audiofier has released Overflow, a new cinematic sound-design instrument for Kontakt. It focuses on organic source material, processed echoes, and evolving textures. The instrument is built around a three-layer architecture that combines one playable Main layer with two Processed layers.

The Main layer provides the tonal foundation. It includes 32 playable sources, such as pitched keyboards, mallets, bells, and plucked sounds. The Processed section adds 81 sources across three collections: 35 Longs, 35 Ekoes, and 11 Shorts. Each layer can be configured independently, with controls for sample start, playback probability, filtering, and more.

Movement and Stereo Processing

Overflow includes several ways to add movement to the processed material. These include Pan LFO, opposing movement between layers, and alternating random pan. You can also introduce pitch drift and additional modulation. The instrument comes with 33 convolution impulses, ranging from spatial reverbs to colored sound-design responses. Choral modulation and stereo delay are also available.

An ECO mode uses Kontakt’s lighter Legacy Reverb and Chorus effects when reduced processing is preferred. This helps on less powerful systems. Moreover, Overflow features a curated randomisation system. It can generate new combinations of layers, altering stereo behavior, sample windows, effects, and playback settings within predefined ranges.

Availability and Pricing

Overflow is available now for an introductory price of $69. The regular price is $79. It requires the full version of Kontakt. You can watch a demo video on YouTube to hear it in action.

In summary, Overflow offers a flexible approach to cinematic sound design. Its three-layer setup and extensive movement options make it a versatile tool for composers and sound designers. The randomisation system helps spark new ideas quickly. For those who need evolving, organic textures, this instrument is worth considering.
