Kaona has introduced B.A.C.H., a new Eurorack module designed for generative composition. It generates melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic structures in real time. The module works with both CV and MIDI, making it versatile for many setups.

Generative Composition

B.A.C.H. produces musical material at every clock pulse. It determines the activity of four tracks, along with their pitches, durations, and dynamics. The result is shaped by a selected compositional language. Musicians can define constraints via eight encoders, each with its own CV input.

Moreover, the module offers twelve distinct compositional languages. These include FUGUE, CANON, PROBA, and others. For instance, TINTINNABULI draws notes from a triad, while CELLULAR uses cellular automata. Additionally, HYBRID allows combining multiple engines across voices.

Deep Control and Connectivity

Each of the four voices provides Gate, Pitch, and Mod outputs. The Pitch outputs span eight octaves. The module also includes eight CV inputs with adjustable attenuation. Furthermore, it has dedicated Clock, Play/Stop, Reset, and Break inputs.

On the MIDI side, B.A.C.H. can transmit and receive clock, transport, and notes. It offers independent MIDI channels per voice. A Learn mode simplifies controller assignment. Therefore, the module integrates well with hybrid setups.

Harmonic Progressions

The SEQUENCE page lets users build progressions of up to 64 chords. It includes twenty-four chord qualities and a library of 96 progressions. Additionally, VOICING mode finds the shortest voice movement automatically. This feature simplifies complex harmonic writing.

Break functions add variation. They can create silence, agitation, or expansion. LIVE mode holds the effect until triggered again. As a result, performances remain dynamic and unpredictable.

B.A.C.H. is priced at 594.00€. An early bird pre-order offers a 15% discount until the first delivery in October. The module is 28 HP wide and requires 240mA on +12V. It ships with an SD card, power cable, and TRS adapters.
