Inside-Out Piano: Unique Kontakt Instrument by Song Athletics

Song Athletics has announced the release of Inside-Out Piano for Kontakt Player, a truly innovative virtual instrument crafted by pianist and composer, Sarah Nicolls. This unique instrument takes the classic Érard grand piano and reimagines it, with the soundboard turned upright. This design exposes the strings, allowing for a diverse array of sounds to be performed.

Inside-Out Piano was recorded in great detail in Sarah’s home studio, nestled in the British countryside. Here, she explores the multitude of sounds that can be drawn from the strings using a variety of unconventional objects. Techniques involving rubber and glass balls, skewers, magnets, bolts, straws, and even her own fingers create a sound world that is playful, atmospheric, and infused with nature.

Unique Sound Exploration

The instrument encourages players to delve into a sonic landscape that’s both surprising and dramatic. Users can blend whale sounds with rhythmic pops or combine percussive sounds with long, expansive tones. Each note offers unique qualities, expanding the range of musical expression.
