PTone: Vintage Casio Sounds Reimagined for Soundbox

A vintage Casio keyboard discovered at a Polish flea market, a studio in Patagonia, and some of the best microphones and analog gear available – these ingredients come together in PTone, a new Soundbox instrument from Kymátika Sounds that bridges 1980s nostalgia with modern sound design.
PTone is a sample library for Audiomodern Soundbox, featuring 42 sounds meticulously captured from an old Casio keyboard. The concept is beautifully simple: record the keyboard through its built-in speaker using premium studio equipment, then process and expand those sounds through analog pedals and digital effects.
From Flea Market Find to Sound Library
Josue Arias, the sound designer behind Kymátika Sounds, found the vintage Casio while traveling through Poland. The instrument still worked perfectly despite its age, so he brought it back to his studio in Patagonia.
The sampling approach sets PTone apart from typical keyboard libraries. Rather than capturing clean DI signals, Arias recorded the Casio through its own built-in speaker, preserving the lo-fi character, the subtle distortion, and the warmth that made these small instruments special in the first place. Those raw recordings were then shaped with high-end microphones, preamps, and compressors before being further processed through studio effects.
What You Get
The library contains 42 carefully crafted sounds that blend retro warmth with contemporary texture. The sounds range from the pure, unprocessed Casio tones to heavily manipulated versions that push into ambient, experimental, and sound design territory. This dual approach gives producers both authentic vintage tones and jumping-off points for further creative processing.
Who Is This For?
PTone works across multiple genres. Ambient and neoclassical producers will appreciate the warm, nostalgic textures. LoFi beat makers get authentic retro tones without having to hunt down vintage hardware. Trap and pop producers can use the sounds for distinctive melodic elements that stand out from typical synth presets. Experimental musicians will find rich source material for granular processing and sound design.
The instrument runs inside Audiomodern Soundbox, which is a free sampler plugin, so there is no additional software cost beyond PTone itself.
Price and Availability
PTone is available now on Kymátika Sounds’ Gumroad store starting at EUR 8 on a pay-what-you-want basis. The library has earned a 4.9-star rating from 14 reviewers, with users praising both the sound quality and the creative inspiration it provides.
