Disto Disco: Rhythmic Distortion Plugin by Snorkel Audio

Snorkel Audio Releases Disto Disco
Snorkel Audio has launched Disto Disco, a new distortion effect for macOS and Windows. It costs €59. The plugin offers 28 processing modes across five families. These families are Drive, Spectral, Math, Time, and Granular.
What Makes Disto Disco Different?
Disto Disco turns static effects into rhythmic, evolving sound. Every dial has its own modulator. This means each control moves with its own shape. One knob can swing wildly, while another glides slowly. As a result, the sound becomes complex and alive.
The 28 Modes
The Drive family includes Soft, Growl, Fold, Fuzz, Roar, Lead, and Crush. These reshape the signal with different distortion types. The Spectral family offers Lowpass, Bandpass, Vowel, Vocoder, Distorted Vocoder, Spectral Gate, and Phase Swap. These affect frequency content. The Math family uses operations like Max, Subtract, Absolute Difference, Divide, Squared, Sign Multiply, and XOR. These produce raw, harsh textures. The Time family includes Delay, Helix, Resonator, and Scrub. They repeat and bend recent sounds. Finally, the Granular family has Rain, Hail, and Cloud. They cut sound into tiny pieces and scatter them.
Features
- 7x Drive: Soft, Growl, Fold, Fuzz, Roar, Lead, Crush
- 7x Spectral: Lowpass, Bandpass, Vowel, Vocoder, Distorted Vocoder, Spectral Gate, Phase Swap
- 7x Math: Max, Subtract, Absolute Difference, Divide, Squared, Sign Multiply, XOR
- 4x Time: Delay, Helix, Resonator, Scrub
- 3x Granular: Rain, Hail, Cloud
Random and Spice
The Random feature selects a mode and sets all dials. It also assigns modulation. Spice controls the level of adventure. It can range from a gentle nudge to complete chaos. Every randomized value stays editable. Therefore, you can keep what works and shape the rest by hand.
Tone and Dynamics
Low Cut, Tube, and High Cut shape the effect. An envelope follower makes distortion react to input. This adds expressiveness.
Formats and Pricing
Disto Disco is available as VST3 and AU. It works on macOS and Windows. The price is €59. A free demo is also available. In addition, the full manual documents every mode and dial.
Pros
- 28 distinct processing modes across five families
- Per-dial rhythmic modulation for evolving effects
- Random and Spice features for quick inspiration
Cons
