Beetlecrab Audio Vector: Experimental Hybrid Hardware Synth

Beetlecrab Audio has introduced the Vector, a desktop hardware synthesizer that combines elements of several synthesis methods into a single expressive instrument. It features a touchscreen interface, rotary encoders, and toggle switches for navigating partials, modulation, and mixing.
Hybrid Synthesis Engine
At the core of the Vector is a hybrid synthesis engine with 64 filters, 128 harmonic generators, and 64 blenders. This allows for complex sound design and unique tonal landscapes. The synthesizer offers 16-voice polyphony with four filters per voice, providing a rich and detailed sound. Additionally, it includes complex modulators, an extensive arpeggiator with a step sequencer, and four carefully tuned effects. These features make it suitable for ambient, experimental, and live performances.
Hardware and Interface
The Vector is built with a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen, 25 smooth infinite rotary encoders, and seven toggle switches. Its metal body measures 29×18×5 cm and weighs 1.5 kg. The device runs on an ARM Cortex-A53 processor with real-time Linux, ensuring responsive performance. Connectivity options include stereo 6.35 mm outputs, a headphone output, Ethernet, USB device and host ports, and MIDI TRS input and output. Firmware updates can be performed via LAN or USB drive.
MPE Support
The Vector received a firmware update (version 2.8) that added MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression) capabilities. This allows for more expressive playing, making it compatible with MPE controllers. The update also improved the overall performance and added new features.
Price and Availability
The Vector is priced at 1,119 EUR including VAT. It is available for purchase directly from the manufacturer. The price includes tracked delivery to Germany. For those interested in experimental synthesis, the Vector offers a unique combination of hardware and software elements.
