Voidscan Audio has released Parasite, a dirty FM synthesizer plugin that focuses on distortion and unconventional sound design. This instrument offers three operators, six algorithms, and a voice-based distortion stage. Therefore, it delivers a gritty, industrial texture that stands out from traditional FM synths.

Two Faces, One Synth
Parasite presents two interfaces. The Home panel keeps essential controls visible around an animated creature, while the Advanced button reveals every parameter. Moreover, all front-panel knobs exist in the advanced view too. This gives you deep control without clutter, and you can tweak any setting from both sides.

The Over-Engineered Random Button
The most distinctive feature is the random button. Instead of throwing random values at every parameter, it follows a custom algorithm. As a result, it lands on usable sounds far more often than typical randomization. Additionally, the Mutate knob lets you control how far your current patch drifts towards a random result. If you open it fully, it arrives where Random would; otherwise, it blends your patch with the generated one. Knobs slide, waveforms jump, and any locked parameters stay put.

Modulation and Effects
Parasite includes three Serum-style drawable LFOs that can modulate any parameter. You also get three macros plus a Time macro that affects the entire patch’s speed. The filter, pitch envelope, delay, and reverb provide standard utilities. Furthermore, two effects, Liquid and Rubber, push sounds towards fluid or elastic materials. A Volume Shaper acts as a gate, while drive and fold circuits add extra dirt. In addition, the distortion stage operates on each voice individually, which yields a more detailed and organic grunge.

Presets and Pricing
The synth ships with 153 presets in eight categories, with 66 dedicated to drums and FX. Sound engineers crafted these patches, highlighting the tool’s strengths. Therefore, you can quickly find usable sounds for industrial, techno, or experimental tracks. Parasite runs on macOS and Windows as a VST3 or AU plug-in. The introductory price is 59 EUR until 23 October, after which it costs 89 EUR. A fully functional demo is available, with a short silence every 30 seconds, so you can test all features before buying.
