WaveXML is a new free beta for Mac and Windows. It helps editors sync dual-system audio to camera footage. The tool works with XML files from DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro, and Final Cut Pro. It’s designed for workflows that use Zoom or Sound Devices recorders.
Instead of using a plugin, WaveXML operates as a standalone app. You export XML from your NLE, drop it into WaveXML, and press Synchronize. The app matches recorder tracks to the cameras. Then you import the XML back into your NLE and continue editing.
How WaveXML Works
The workflow is straightforward. First, you prepare your timeline with one camera per video track. The recorder audio goes on its own audio track. Then you export XML from your NLE. WaveXML reads the file and syncs everything. Finally, you export a new XML and import it back.
According to the developer, the beta is the full application. There are no clip or feature limits. All processing happens locally, so no upload is required. This is a key advantage for privacy-conscious editors.
Supported Formats and NLEs
WaveXML accepts FCPXML from Final Cut Pro. It also reads FCP7 XML from Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve. For Avid, it supports XMEML via a round-trip. The output formats match the input, so you can work in your preferred editor.
The tool is particularly useful for wedding and event multicam shoots. It also helps with interviews and documentaries where boom and lav mics are used. If you previously used PluralEyes for timeline sync, WaveXML offers a similar round-trip approach—without the subscription.
Free Beta Details
The beta is free and includes all features. You just need to register with your name and email. The developers will send you a unique beta key and download links for Mac and Windows. The Windows build is unsigned, so SmartScreen may show a warning.
WaveXML is not yet a finished product. As a beta, you might encounter bugs. Still, it’s a promising tool for editors who need reliable dual-system sync without breaking the bank.
