Talk-Zone #66 Interview with SoundBridge

Image
Welcome to this interview Wake Anderson. You‘re the man behind the SoundBridge academy and the online DAW SoundBridge. SoundBridge Academy is offering so much music production courses and a lot of them are for free. Tell us about the key themes of the courses.

Hey Carl, thanks for having me. We currently offer our Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) course for free so you can experience our course platform before investing in the Certificate. The DAW course is an Ableton course equivalent to what you would take at DubSpot or Pyramid, but it’s 100% free. It’s a deep dive into your home studio and every major feature of a Digital Audio Workstation as a whole so you know how to navigate and use it properly for music production.

For which kind of music production genres are these music production courses suitable (e.g, Techno, EDM, House, Rock, Dance, Pop, Hip-Hop, Soul?)

The knowledge you will learn from SoundBridge Academy is applicable for all of the genres mentioned above. It’s an in-depth study of sound design, synthesis, composition and mixing & mastering for aspiring producers.

You‘ve got also commercial courses. If I have good skills in mixing and mastering, but I want to learn something about composition or sound design, can I individually enter directly in the modules of my choice or do I need to buy all courses, even if I don‘t need a mixing or mastering lesson?

We just launched SoundBridge Academy and right now we’re offering the Music Production Certificate as one complete package. We may sell our courses individually in the future. Our program, at just $799, is a really good value compared to Berklee Online or DubSpot without sacrificing quality. I think DubSpot’s certificate program is about $12,000 USD. With our Certificate you get access to the material for 2 years and if you need help with anything, we supply 1on1 tutoring for just $50/hour. We work with some really big names in Psytrance such as Freaked Frequency and Arhetip so our tutors are very well qualified. Check them out on BeatPort.com – they’re pioneers and amazing producers.

If someone is doing a whole course he will get an music production certificate, right? Is this certificate state-approved or good enough to be able to apply for a job in a studio, after finishing this music-production education?

The Certificate is proof that you’ve completed the course and all the modules. Music production is a craft that requires a lifetime of learning and practice. The education is for self-fulfillment first and foremost. You may mention on a resume that you earned the Certificate, but it’s up to you to put in the hours and become a great producer.

Is there a plan for offering more tutorials like Live-/PA-/FOH Mixing and recording or other topics for professional audio?

Maybe, you never know! Right now, we’re focused on the courses we have and perfecting them. We are learning a lot from our students. They’re providing a lot of critical feedback and we are using that feedback to optimize the program.

Soundbridge is also supporting the DAW Soundbridge. Let‘s talk about the main features of the DAW.

The SoundBridge DAW is a full-featured Digital Audio Workstation designed with mobility and user experience in mind. It is integrated with SkyTracks.io, a company based out of Montreal, Canada that supplies cloud storage coupled with virtual collaboration. Similar to Splice, your projects are saved to an in-browser sequencer your collaborators can access. The project’s owner can also set permissions for collaborators. Collaborators can even record in high-fidelity through the browser. You can also mix & master in the browser and SkyTracks.io provides some basic in-browser FX as well.

SkyTracks.io is backwards compatible with the SoundBridge DAW – allowing you to communicate to anyone on a project through SoundBridge using time-stamp comments on bounced Audio Blocks. (We’ll support commenting on unbounced MIDI & Automation Blocks shortly!) These comments look similar to the way you comment on the waveform in SoundCloud. You can also create, organize and upload & download SkyTracks.io projects from SoundBridge. The project’s BPM, Time Signature and other essential sequencing parameters sync. You can even set permissions for project collaborators directly from the DAW. This way, you can get the best of in-browser virtual collaboration & storage while being able to remain in the desktop environment with access to your full featured DAW, professional plugins and soundcard drivers

Does this soundbridge-DAW also contain some internal instrument and effects plugins?

Our DAW supports all major plugins out there. We developed a Drum Machine called RitMix and also provide a built-in FX suite containing all of your essential mixing & mastering FX. RitMix is a powerful drum machine containing a 16-step sequencer, MPC-style pad performance section, extensive editing capabilities, and a solid built-in mixer. It consolidates the most essential functionality needed to make complex rhythms on-the-fly and plenty of insert FX, humanizers, and randomization algorithms. The SoundBridge DAW also accepts VSTi, 2 and 3. In the future, our next step is to build a VST Sampler – so stay tuned!

Which kind of features could we expect in the future for this DAW?

We have the best of online and desktop. We’re a hybrid environment. You can use SkyTracks.io to send previews of entire projects to your clients or collaborators. They can leave their comments in ”View Mode” right on the tracks so you have a good record of their notes. In “Write Mode”, they can record directly into the browser from any ASIO or CoreAudio soundcard and contribute to a new track. In SoundBridge, you can access of the functionality of SkyTracks.io without leaving the desktop DAW and use the in-browser functionality to have a real-time Google Doc experience while communicating revisions.

SoundBridge is also working as an hybrid-DAW, right?

  1. I can’t find a solution or answer to this problem. Perhaps you can help, or steer me in the direction where I can get help. I am getting vicious feedback when I attempt to use reverb in “Soundbridge” and can’t sort it out.
    Can you help me?
    Thank you
    Randy
