Introducing Eclipse: A New Analog Stereo Morphing Oscillator

After more than three years of development, Black Noise Modular has released Eclipse, an analog stereo morphing oscillator designed to blend vintage analog character with modern sound design features. Eclipse aims to provide producers and synthesists with a versatile tool for creating rich, complex, and expressive sounds.

High-Precision Analog Core and Unique Waveshaping

The foundation of Eclipse is a high-precision analog triangle oscillator that tracks accurately over 10 octaves, ensuring stable tuning and performance. Instead of using a traditional wavefolder, the design team drew inspiration from the EMS VCS3’s waveshaper circuit. This led to the creation of a custom waveshaper that offers extensive sonic possibilities and dynamic control.

Stereo Processing and Modulation Features

One of Eclipse’s standout features is its dedicated stereo section, which allows waveforms to be spread and moved across the stereo field while maintaining perfect balance. This stereo processing capability enhances spatial effects and adds depth to the sound. The module supports full CV control over all parameters, with smart normalization that enables global modulation from a single source.

Advanced Modulation and Output Options

Eclipse includes multiple modulation modes such as XFM, ULFO, Stereo Pulse Array Modulation (SPAM), Stereo Pulsed Saw Modulation (SPSM), and RM/AM capabilities. It also offers a quadrature mode called MorphX for wave blending, ring modulation, amplitude modulation, and sidechain ducking. The module provides individual outputs for sine, triangle, saw, square, sub, and morph-square waves, along with a voltage-controlled stereo spread for balanced imaging.
