Elektron Outbox 8: Dedicated Multi-Output Interface for Overbridge Devices

Elektron has officially released the Outbox 8, an eight-channel audio/CV breakout box designed for Overbridge-compatible hardware. It was first spotted at Superbooth 2026 and is now available with full specs on Elektron’s website. This accessory solves a long-standing issue for many users: the lack of dedicated bus outputs on Elektron devices.

What Does the Outbox 8 Do?

The Outbox 8 provides eight configurable physical outputs that can be assigned to audio or CV duties. It features eight impedance-balanced, DC-coupled 1/4″ outputs running at 48kHz/32-bit resolution. CV output covers a range of +/- 5 volts, supporting signal types like Pitch V/Oct, Pitch Hz/V, Linear Value, Trig, Gate, and Clock. This is a genuinely solid list for a box this size.

Beyond audio routing, it works as a USB MIDI-to-CV converter. You can play, sequence, modulate, and sync modular systems or other CV-capable instruments. It also functions as an eight-channel USB audio interface for computers, tablets, or phones. MIDI from your DAW can be sent to the Outbox 8 simultaneously, allowing any output to be configured for CV.

Compatibility Varies by Device

Elektron’s official data shows support varies. Devices like Digitakt I/II, Digitone I/II/Keys, Syntakt, and Analog Rytm MKII get full in-device configuration and multitrack routing. Older units like Analog Rytm MKI and Analog Four MKI/Keys require the Outbox 8 web app. Tonverk has limited functionality with high latency and no in-device setup. Model:Sample and Model:Cycles only support two-track audio, while Octatrack, Machinedrum, and Monomachine run only via DIN/MIDI with the web app. For any other USB class-compliant device, configuration is done via the web app, with varying audio and MIDI compatibility.

Connectivity and Design

The unit features two USB-C ports—one for device/computer connection and one for power. A front-panel status LED shows connection status. It measures 176 x 90 x 28 mm and weighs 0.35 kg, making it compact for live use. Class-compliant USB audio and a three-year Elektron warranty round out the package.

Powerhub Still Missing

The Powerhub USB-C hub spotted alongside Outbox 8 at Superbooth is absent from the official announcement. Its status remains unclear. It might launch separately later or have been renamed.

Price and Availability

The Elektron Outbox 8 is priced at €299 / $349. It includes a quick guide and a USB-C to USB-B cable. The unit is available now at retailers like Thomann and Sweetwater.
