Moog Music Releases Free Messenger Preset Editor

Moog Music has announced the release of the Messenger Preset Editor, a free standalone editor and librarian application specifically designed for managing the Moog Messenger synthesizer. This innovative software is available for both Mac and Windows, offering users a visual interface that enhances their sound design, sequencer programming, and patch management experiences via USB.

Visual Interface

The Messenger Preset Editor provides a graphical interface that mirrors the Messenger’s hardware layout. This functionality allows users to adjust synthesis parameters directly on-screen, which significantly improves workflow. The system employs bi-directional synchronization, ensuring that changes made on the hardware are instantly reflected in the software and vice versa.

Advanced Features for Sound Design

Beyond the conventional panel controls, the editor grants access to deeper, “under-the-hood” parameters typically accessible only through system menus in the hardware. This enables more advanced tweaking and sound design possibilities. Graphical editing is particularly beneficial for users working with the instrument’s 64-step sequencer, as it allows for detailed control over note data, velocity, modulation destinations, and probability settings.

Efficient Patch Management

The librarian section of the Messenger Preset Editor greatly enhances patch management capabilities for the screenless hardware. Users can organize, tag, and search through the 256-preset memory across 16 banks with ease. Additional features include drag-and-drop organization and full library backup and restoration options, making the process straightforward.

Future Plugin Releases

While the Messenger Preset Editor is available now as a standalone application, Moog Music has announced that VST and AU plugin versions are scheduled to be released in December 2025. This update will enable users to perform DAW automation and session recall, further expanding the software’s capabilities.
