Hexant DSP Torsion: Hybrid Multiband Pitch Shifter

Hexant DSP has released Torsion, a new hybrid multiband pitch and frequency shifter. This plugin offers a versatile approach to pitch manipulation. It combines semitone-based pitch shifting with Hertz-based frequency shifting. Moreover, a Morph control lets you blend both methods on a single insert.

Hybrid Modulation

Torsion operates in two distinct domains. You can shift pitch in semitones or frequency in Hertz. Furthermore, the Morph parameter crossfades between these two modes. Therefore, you can achieve anything from subtle detune to extreme frequency sweeps. Additionally, a Diatonic function snaps shifts to a defined scale. This ensures your results remain musically relevant.

Protecting the Low End

The plugin includes Sub-Anchor and Natural Low features. These leave the sub frequencies of bass parts unshifted. As a result, low-end energy stays intact even during extreme shifts. Similarly, this helps maintain the foundation of your mix. Consequently, Torsion is suitable for bass-heavy genres like techno and dubstep.

Transient Clarity

Drums and percussion often suffer from pitch shifting. Torsion addresses this with Perc, HPSS, and Transient boost controls. These tools help keep hats and transients sharp. In addition, they minimize smearing and aliasing artifacts. Thus, the plugin works well on drum buses and full mixes. It also retains the punch of transient-rich material.
