FreQtik has released Impulse Anvil, a sound-design workstation built around a simple idea: instead of searching for a finished impulse response, users build the response their sound is missing. The plugin runs directly as an effect on a playing instrument or audio track.
Convolution Sound Design in Real Time
Impulse Anvil uses two impulse responses, compatible recordings, textures, or found sounds as source material. The result can be heard through the plugin’s own stereo convolution engine while it is being designed. Therefore, producers can shape reverb characters directly in context. Moreover, the two sources interact through 21 different Morph relationships. These range from direct and spectral blends to shared, unique, residual, and more experimental acoustic relationships.
Draw, Path, Glue and Omni Path
Four tools extend the concept beyond a normal A/B morph. Draw paints how the relationship changes across the response. Path can move forward and backward through source-time. Meanwhile, Glue assembles separate pieces into a new timeline. In addition, Omni Path lets the full two-dimensional gesture contribute to the resulting IR’s duration.
Turn Any Recording Into an Impulse Response
Impulse Anvil is also designed to work with material that was never intended to be an impulse response. For instance, recordings of rooms, metal, paper, machinery, voices, environmental sounds, or other textures can become convolution material. As a result, these sources introduce their own resonance, timing, and irregularity.
Export and Reuse Your Responses
When a useful response has been created, it can stay inside Anvil as part of a preset. Alternatively, it can be baked as a standard WAV impulse response for use in compatible convolution software. Baked responses can also be loaded back into Impulse Anvil and transformed again. Features
- Two-source impulse response design workstation
- 21 different Morph relationships between sources
- Draw, Path, Glue and Omni Path editing tools
- Stereo convolution engine for real-time monitoring
- Works with any audio material as IR source
- Export as standard WAV impulse responses
- Baked IRs can be reloaded and transformed again
Price and Availability
Impulse Anvil costs 49.00 € for the full license with two license seats included. A free demo is available. Windows 10/11 64-bit VST3 is the primary supported commercial release. A macOS AU/VST3 testing build is also available with the same demo and full-license functionality. However, the macOS build is not distributed with an Apple Developer ID signature and has not been notarized by Apple. Consequently, macOS may require manual Gatekeeper approval.

Pros
- Creates custom impulse responses from any audio material, not just traditional IRs
- 21 Morph relationships plus Draw, Path, Glue and Omni Path tools for detailed IR design
- Exports standard WAV impulse responses that work in other convolution software and can be reloaded
Cons
- macOS build is unsigned and not notarized by Apple, requiring manual Gatekeeper approval
- Primary commercial release is Windows VST3 only; no AAX support for Pro Tools
