Alioso has released two free, self-generating instruments for Windows and macOS. Both are available as VST3 and AU plugins. The pair consists of Jerrican, a granular synth, and Marmite, a generative drum machine. They are now at version 1.0.1, which fixes a display scaling issue reported by users.

Jerrican: Granular Synth

Jerrican builds four voices — Bass, Ambient, Haze, and Keys — from clouds of overlapping micro-grains. These grains keep reshaping themselves once you hit Play. You don’t need to wait for a note or a preset. The instrument generates sound continuously.

A global Mode control spans 21 scales. Each voice can be routed to its own DAW track. This gives you plenty of flexibility for sound design and mixing. Therefore, Jerrican is suitable for evolving pads, textures, and experimental melodies.

Marmite: Generative Drum Machine

Marmite generates a full 8-voice drum kit from scratch on every pass. It includes Kick, Snare, Clap, Hats, Perc, Crash, and Tom. The instrument rolls the dice on every subdivision while still holding together like a real kit.

A Wild knob shifts the whole feel. You can go from a locked-in basic beat through breakbeat and Jungle syncopation to full glitch chaos. Consequently, Marmite is great for quick inspiration or for adding unpredictable rhythmic elements to your tracks.
