Whilst some follow trends, others set them. Award-winning music producer and live performer Rodriguez Jr. also known as Olivier Mateu has spent 20 years in the industry, with his vast experience of all genres of electronic music making him the visionary of melodic house and techno he is today.

Initially, Mateu made his name under the mentorship of the legendary Laurent Garnier, releasing music on the revered F-Communications label as one half of French electro act The Youngsters. Following this he gradually honed his style into the dynamic, colourful sound of beauty that can now be regularly found on Mobilee, Anjunadeep and demanded for on remixes of Stephan Bodzin, Booka Shade, Eli & Fur, Steve Bug, Timo Maas and more. Drawing inspiration for his live performances from the vintage synthesizers, keyboards and dusty analog gear of his studio in Paris, Rodriguez Jr. relishes the opportunity to travel the globe and realise his project on stage.

This past year has seen Rodriguez Jr. keep up an impressive output of creative material and live performance. Whereas before, inspiration could come from anywhere he visited on tour, 2020 and 2021’s creations have blossomed from a deep introspective, drawing on the influences of his varied and nuanced career. From his Paris studio to the world, recent successes include “Hydra EP” (Mobilee), “It Hurts” (Rodriguez Jr. Remix) of Harry Romero (Crosstown Rebels), “Attached” (Rodriguez Jr. Remix) of Tim Engelhardt (Stil Vor Talent). Embracing new mediums, Rodriguez Jr. has delivered standout live performances, with highlights of the half a million view topping Beatport ReConnect, and the incredible live sunrise in Britanny, produced by BOLDR TV.

Polychromic Synths sees Rodriguez Jr. delve into his extensive hardware collection to bring you well over 550 MB of sounds. You’ll hear the sounds of the SH 101, Jupiter 6, Juno 106, Synthex, Voyager, Sub 37, TB 303, ARP 2600, OB6, DX7, 100F, D550, JD990, DrumBrute, TR909, TR8S, DSP4000, DP4+, LA610 mkII and MiniRack Mixer, generating beautiful leads, basses and arps in both one-shot and loop form. Gorgeous analog drums and percussion also seep from the core of this unique care package.

“After more than 20 years producing electronic music, I plunged into the exercise of retro- examination of my sound and distilled its essence… the distinctive sound of some of my synthesizers such as the Roland Jupiter 6 or the rare Elka Synthex, the characteristic colour of my analog signal path or the recurring patterns in the chords I employ most often.

Throughout my career, I always tried to avoid thinking of my music in terms of genre and more as an architect would: imagining colours and shapes in motion.

While curating this collection a lot of attention was given to textures, transients and overall technical quality which allows you to use the elements as primary colours, all the while keeping enough headroom so that you can have fun transforming the sounds and making them your own.”
