Minimal Audio Lucid: Granular Effect Plugin Adds 350 Presets

Minimal Audio has released Lucid, a granular effect plugin built for creating vivid textures, harmonies, rhythms, and transformations that stay in key and in time. The plugin runs on macOS and Windows in VST3, AU, and AAX formats. It works as an insert on any channel or source. Therefore, it can rebuild incoming audio grain by grain into new musical material.

Real-Time Granular Processing

Lucid’s real-time granular engine detects and retunes every grain’s pitch. This scale-lock feature lets producers transpose and modulate freely while staying in key. In addition, the timeline sync keeps time-stretching locked to the project grid. Users can snap to transients or scrub through captured loops. Meanwhile, the timeline display shows the captured input and the exact position of every grain.

Presets and Playable Modes

The plugin includes over 350 presets across 13 packs. These cover harmonic layering, synced rhythms, shimmering spaces, and full transformations. Each preset offers two macros for instant control. Furthermore, the grain chord and arp modes stack grains into rich harmonies or step through the scale. Consequently, producers can build evolving sequences without complex routing.

Sound Shaping and Modulation

Lucid also offers a multi-tap harmonic grain delay with scale-locked pitch shifting. Its multi-mode grain filter gives each grain its own filter, drive, and modulation. Likewise, the dynamic grain imager spreads grains across the stereo field with unique panning patterns. The grain blur feature smooths away digital artifacts from time-stretching and freezing. As a result, extreme processing remains organic.

Effects Rack and Automation

The plugin includes an effects rack with eight freely loadable studio-grade effects. This allows for mix-ready polish or deeper sound design. In addition, the deep modulation system supports macros, LFOs, curve sequencers, and envelope followers. Users can assign these by drag-and-drop or via the modulation matrix. Finally, the Animator pad provides an XY control that can move many parameters at once.
