MonsterDMX Brings Free DMX Lighting Control to Ableton Live

LOFI Monster Studio has released MonsterDMX, a free Max for Live device that brings DMX stage lighting control directly onto an Ableton Live audio track. This tool eliminates the need for a separate lighting desk or a second application running alongside Live. It is designed for producers and performers who want to synchronize lighting with their music without leaving their DAW.

What Does MonsterDMX Do?
MonsterDMX drives up to two DMX fixtures with independent RGB(W) color control. You can adjust each fixture separately or link them together. The device also includes a master dimmer and an instant blackout switch for quick scene changes. Moreover, brightness can follow the audio track’s own signal via a built-in audio follower. This follower offers attack and release shaping to respond naturally to the music’s dynamics.

Four FX Modes and Automation
In addition to audio following, MonsterDMX includes four onboard FX modes: strobe, jump, gradual, and pulse. Each mode has its own speed control. Consequently, you can create dynamic lighting effects without external controllers. Every parameter is automatable and MIDI-mappable, just like any native Live parameter. As a result, you can integrate lighting changes into your arrangement or performance seamlessly.

Compatibility and Requirements
MonsterDMX requires Windows 10/11, Ableton Live 11 or 12 with Max for Live, and a uDMX USB-DMX interface. You will also need one or more DMX PAR fixtures. A one-time uDMX driver installation via Zadig is necessary, and a setup guide is included. Unfortunately, there is no Mac version available at this time.
