Obsidian Brass: Innovative Ambient French Horn Library for Kontakt

Introducing Obsidian Brass by Emergence Audio
Emergence Audio has released Obsidian Brass, a unique ambient French horn library designed for Kontakt and Kontakt Player 7.7 or later. This instrument offers a fresh take on brass sounds, focusing on evolving textures and emotional tension rather than traditional cinematic brass bravado. It is available for a limited time at a discounted price of $79, down from $119.
Non-Static Sampling™ and Infinite Motion Engine™ 2.0
At the core of Obsidian Brass is the innovative Non-Static Sampling™ technology developed by Emergence Audio’s founder Michael Vignola. This technique captures the natural evolution of sound, preserving subtle tonal shifts and resonance changes that occur as a note sustains. Unlike conventional sampling that isolates static moments, Non-Static Sampling™ ensures that each note unfolds uniquely, creating a more organic and human feel.
Complementing this is the Infinite Motion Engine™ 2.0, a generative system that allows sounds to evolve continuously without repetition. Together, these technologies provide composers with expressive control over time, motion, and emotion, resulting in a restless and responsive brass sound that breathes and moves.

Artistic Vision and Use Cases
Obsidian Brass was created to explore the tension between force and fragility in brass instruments. It emphasizes sonic decay, space, and erosion rather than traditional heroic brass sounds. This makes it ideal for composers working on sci-fi, neo-noir, or abstract art films who want a brass sound that is both powerful and restrained.
The library was recorded with world-class French horn player Meredith Moore, whose extensive experience in classical and cinematic music brings depth and nuance to the samples. Her artistry captures the subtleties of breath and resonance, enhancing the emotional storytelling potential of the instrument.
System Requirements and Additional Information
Obsidian Brass requires Kontakt or Kontakt Player version 7.7 or later and approximately 4 GB of storage. It supports MIDI Learn and automation for seamless integration into production workflows. Users can also access free updates indefinitely.
