Unusable Engineering has introduced Quadrant Modulator, a new effect plugin that combines ring modulation with four-quadrant multiplication. Available for macOS and Windows, it operates as an AU and VST3 plugin. The tool builds on the visual oscillator from Curves & Membranes, offering a drawable Bézier waveform for modulation. This allows users to shape the audio signal in creative ways. The oscillator can run from LFO to audio rates, follow the pitch of an input via a phase-locked loop, or play a single cycle when triggered.

Key Features and Sequencer

An eight-slot sequencer stores waveform geometry, rate, shape, and overflow settings. Rates can be host-synchronized or quantized to a selected note set, with MTS-ESP support for microtonal tuning. Per-slot rate slew lets some pitch transitions slide while others change instantly. The plugin includes clean and diode-inspired multiplication modes, positive or inverted feedback, clip/fold processing, and tube-style output limiting. Although the core process is amplitude and ring modulation, it can produce a wide range of effects.
