Remi Blaze has released Pumpit, a new free sidechain ducker plugin for macOS. It delivers precise volume envelope shaping for that classic pumping effect. The plugin is available as AU, VST3, and Standalone. It works on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.
Sidechain Simplicity
Pumpit removes the need for complex routing. You can drop it onto any track and select a tempo division. The ducking then follows your DAW’s grid automatically. There is no need for buses, sends, or external compressors. This approach speeds up your workflow significantly.
In addition, the plugin features three trigger modes. Auto runs a tempo-synced envelope with no routing. Sidechain uses an external input with a high-pass filter. MIDI triggers the envelope from note-on messages. These options give you flexibility for various production styles.
Shaping the Perfect Pump
You can shape the volume envelope with ten curve shapes. These include Smooth, Punchy, Hard, Log, Exponential, and more. A custom spline editor allows you to draw your own curve. You also get controls for Amount, Hold, Offset, and Rate. A stereo offset widens the pumping effect. A 5ms lookahead ensures accurate alignment.
Multiband ducking is another key feature. The 4th-order Linkwitz-Riley split lets you duck only the low band. This keeps your highs intact while the bass pumps. Auto-gain compensation maintains consistent levels. A soft clipper and dry/wet mix add further tonal control.
Workflow and Monitoring
Pumpit includes a real-time curve display with a waveform overlay. It shows input, gain reduction, and output levels. You get A/B comparison and a randomize function. Eleven factory presets are tuned for house and tech house club tracks. Moreover, a free companion plugin called Pumpit Raw offers a one-knob version for quick use.
