DEVPROAUDIO has officially launched REVERSIDE v1.0, an advanced dual-engine fully algorithmic reverb plugin now available for macOS and Windows. This new offering supports VST3, CLAP, and AudioUnit v2 formats, providing electronic music producers with a powerful tool for intricate spatial sound design. Essentially, REVERSIDE distinguishes itself by offering separate, highly detailed control over both early reflections and the reverb tail. This architectural choice allows users to sculpt the sense of space, depth, stereo width, tonal characteristics, and decay in a significantly more granular fashion than traditional, single-block reverb units. Consequently, it facilitates the creation of diverse acoustic environments, ranging from natural rooms and expansive halls to exceptionally smooth, long-tail decays and even highly stylized, cinematic, or experimental soundscapes.
Advanced 3D Spatialization Capabilities
Beyond being a conventional reverb, REVERSIDE integrates a sophisticated 3D spatial positioning system. This innovative feature enables the placement of a virtual sound source and a listener within a simulated acoustic environment, where the geometry of the virtual space directly influences the resulting sound. This means the directional character of both the early reflections and the reverb tail dynamically adjusts based on the actual disposition of the source and listener inside the room. As a result, the perception of depth, width, and directionality stems from the inherent structure of the space itself, rather than relying solely on simple stereo panning. This capability is particularly beneficial for constructing cohesive mixes where multiple instruments feel organically situated within a shared acoustic environment, rather than merely having reverb applied as a post-processing effect. An interactive 3D Position Display offers intuitive visual feedback for setting up these spatial arrangements.
Detailed Control and Innovative Features
For producers who require in-depth control over spatial parameters, REVERSIDE provides an extensive parameter set, blending physically inspired room controls with familiar musical reverb adjustments. Furthermore, both the early and late reflection engines are equipped with their own independent 3-band filters, 3-band EQs, stereo tools, modulation capabilities, and dedicated mini diffusers. These mini diffusers contribute additional density and texture to the sound. Importantly, REVERSIDE supports different reverb times, extended envelope settings, and decay filter gains for the left and right channels, or in Mid/Side mode. This flexibility unlocks a spectrum of unusual and highly expressive spatial effects. Moreover, a pitch-preserving modulation system, featuring over 100 internal LFOs, can animate various aspects of the algorithm while meticulously preserving harmonic detail in the reverb tail. This effectively avoids the common pitch smear often associated with conventional delay- or FM-based reverb modulation techniques.
The plugin also includes independent pre-delay controls for both early and late engines, offering auto, free, and tempo-synced modes. Because the late engine can be timed in relation to the early engine, it transcends conventional reverb timing, enabling rhythmic, tempo-locked spatial and delay-like effects. With specialized density modes that can shift the response towards resonant, echo-like behavior, REVERSIDE can also generate true delay-style effects and everything in between. This comprehensive level of control is efficiently organized through a layered editing system. The Easy and Main pages function as central hubs, providing quick access to essential controls, while dedicated deeper editing pages are available for Reflections, Position, Reverb, Filters, EQ, Stereo, Diffusers, and Modulation. This design ensures that users can either quickly dial in sounds using the Easy page or delve into advanced sound sculpting as needed. The plugin also features a GPU-rendered user interface, designed to optimize CPU resources for audio DSP, and comes with hundreds of factory presets, including contributions from RumbaCodex and Nirto (NSONICS), with more third-party libraries anticipated.
