Sabol Hill Lacuna: Digital Electricity Engine Plugin

Sabol Hill has introduced Lacuna, a new plugin described as a “digital electricity engine.” This innovative tool aims to blend the tactile experience of analog mixing with the precision and recall capabilities of digital software. Designed to function as a stereo animator, EQ, and saturator, Lacuna offers a comprehensive suite for shaping sound.

Unveiling the Core: Current Technology

A central feature of Lacuna is its unique Current system. This technology provides users with access to a new class of hardware-behavior emulation, allowing the spectrum of a signal to subtly evolve over time. Particularly impactful in stereo applications, Current imparts noticeable width, depth, and a sense of life to audio. Consequently, as long as Current is engaged, the plugin ensures a rich, non-nulling stereo field, enhancing spatial perception significantly. Moreover, this system is a key differentiator, setting Lacuna apart from more conventional mixing tools.

Comprehensive Sound Sculpting Tools

Lacuna is equipped with a versatile 4-Band Equalizer, enabling precise shaping of the source audio. Each band includes solo modes, which are useful for fine-tuning frequency boundaries. Furthermore, the EQ bands can individually engage the Current, Saturation, Drift, and Lean parameters, offering granular control over their effects. In addition, dedicated Pre & Post Filters provide separate input and output high and low pass filtering, allowing users to better shape the signal path before and after processing.

Advanced Stereo Enhancement and Saturation

Beyond EQ, Lacuna excels in stereo manipulation. When activated on any EQ band, Drift improves the perception of width and separation within that specific frequency range. Similarly, Lean enhances stereo separation, subtly relocating the source within the stereo field without causing audible panning artifacts. Furthermore, the plugin incorporates world-class, physics-based saturation technology. This includes TAPE, TUBE, and TRANSFORMER modes, all designed to emulate the authentic behavior of their hardware counterparts, providing rich harmonic content and character. For quick tonal adjustments, Lacuna also includes three high-level Character Presets—INFRA, TERRA, and SUPRA—which apply distinct under-the-hood EQ curves that can be used or bypassed as needed.

Features

  • Pre & Post Filters: Separate input and output high and low pass filters.
