SampleRoll shft: 16-Step Trance Gate Multi-FX

SampleRoll has released shft, a new rhythmic multi-effect plugin. It is designed to turn static loops, drums, and melodies into evolving rhythmic ideas. The plugin is available now for an introductory price of $19, regularly $39.

What Does shft Do?

shft is a tempo-synced rhythmic gate. It uses a 16-step sequencer to chop incoming audio. Each step can hold its own envelope shape. These shapes include Swell, Pluck, Pulse, Ramp, and Triangle. This allows for intricate rhythmic patterns. The gate morphs continuously between shapes. There is no stepping in between.

Key Features of the Plugin

The plugin goes beyond simple gating. It includes a 3-band multiband mode. This splits audio into low, mid, and high frequencies. Each band can have its own independent pattern. Consequently, producers can keep the low end steady while chopping the mids. The highs can pulse at a different rhythm entirely.

The step sequencer also offers beat repeats. These can play forward or in reverse. A granular mode smears the audio into textures. Controls for pitch, scatter, and grain size are included. A Chaos knob generates new variations. It re-rolls steps for glitchy, unpredictable results.

Built-In Effects and Modulation

shft includes a full effects chain. A gated plate reverb comes with a pitch-shift shimmer. A tempo-synced ping-pong delay can flip into a frequency-shifter echo. There is also a compressor that switches to OTT-style multiband mode. Saturation with ten drive models completes the chain.

Modulation is handled by four tempo-synced LFOs. They feed into a lane-based mod matrix. This can route to almost any parameter. Filter, FX, pitch, and auto-pan are all possible targets. One LFO can even modulate another LFO’s rate. Mod rings on knobs show what is moving.
