The Instruō Seashell is a compact semi-modular synthesizer system designed to blend hands-on analogue synthesis with advanced digital control. It offers a unique approach to working with analogue synth voices by combining tactile hardware with a dedicated software interface. This integration allows seamless incorporation of Instruō hardware into professional sound design, music production, and live performance workflows.

Hardware and Software Integration

Seashell pairs two sawtooth-core analogue voltage-controlled oscillators with an analogue voltage-controlled wavefolder and a resonant voltage-controlled low-pass filter. The system features internal waveform routing to both the filter and wavefolder inputs, enabling complex sound shaping. It also includes parallel modular level outputs and an internal analogue cross frequency modulation (FM) bus for versatile modulation possibilities.

For connectivity, Seashell offers CV inputs for self-patching and external modulation, a stereo line level/headphone output driver, and a TRS MIDI input. Additionally, it supports user-definable external CV input and output, USB-C connectivity for audio and MIDI integration with digital audio workstations (DAWs), and a VST3/software control interface expansion.

Advanced Control and Modulation Features

The device provides high-resolution (14-bit) digital control over analogue circuitry, allowing precise parameter adjustments. It includes a customizable scale transposition engine and total recall of digitally controlled analogue parameters, which enhances workflow efficiency. Internal low-frequency oscillator (LFO) modulation sources, a multifunction envelope generator, and a stereo diffusion effect expand the sonic possibilities.

Moreover, the Seashell features a 4×4 modulation matrix mixer with hardware macro control and MIDI learn functionality, facilitating complex modulation routings and easy integration with external MIDI controllers.
