Spectral Agent 2 Brings Auto EQ & Unmasking to Your Mix

Immanent Audio has released Spectral Agent 2, an updated version of its unmasking and dynamic auto EQ plugin. It runs on Windows and macOS in VST3 and AU formats. Specifically, the plugin is designed to resolve frequency clashes between tracks and help lead instruments stand out.

First, Spectral Agent compares frequency data across tracks. It then identifies collisions and dynamically applies notch filters to favor the selected lead track. Furthermore, the core Master/Yielding engine from version 1 remains intact. Even so, version 2 introduces new interaction modes and improved latency behavior.

Ecosystem and Interaction Modes

Mixers can place up to 64 instances across tracks or buses. These instances share spectral data automatically. Consequently, no sidechain routing is needed. Users can link two tracks and set one as Master and another as Yielding. In this way, the analyzer shows frequency data from both tracks and highlights collision points.

The new Negotiate mode offers a different approach. In essence, it treats two tracks as equal priority and nudges them apart instead of forcing one to dominate. Similarly, Ducking mode adds a low-latency envelope for fast percussion transients. It achieves around 4 ms detection at 60 Hz and under 3 ms above 100 Hz.

Groups are another addition. Users can group Master, Yielding, or Negotiating pairs and control them together. Additionally, there are three custom groups with per-group knob multipliers. As a result, this setup works well with DAW automation and batch modifications.

Per-Pair Controls

Each linked pair has its own Depth, Q, Sensitivity, and Attack/Release controls. At the same time, these parameters apply locally to the specific interaction. Therefore, unmasking behavior stays precise and does not affect other relationships.

Spectral Agent uses a weighted priority algorithm to place notches. For instance, it protects Yielding tracks from being completely carved out when they compete with multiple Masters. In addition, there are seven general-purpose notch slots plus one dedicated bass slot.

The plugin also includes acoustically tuned envelopes and an 80-band analyzer. Meanwhile, the visual feedback shows input, remote spectrum, and post-processed output at the same time.
