U-he Zebra 3: Modular Synthesizer Plugin Now in Public Beta

U-he has officially launched the public beta of Zebra 3, the much-anticipated successor to the Zebra 2 modular synthesizer plugin. This new plugin has been in development for 11 years, and users can now participate in beta testing, even without a prior license.
What’s New in Zebra 3?
Zebra 3 maintains the modular synthesizer concept that made its predecessor popular but is built entirely from the ground up. Every aspect, from algorithms to user interface workflows, has been reimagined, allowing for enhanced sound and performance. However, it is important to note that the new module architecture typically requires about double the CPU resources compared to Zebra 2 modules.
As the public beta is just beginning, users might encounter some bugs, unfinished features, and crashes. Despite these issues, the beta version already showcases new features, including:
Features
- New spline-based wavetable oscillator
- Physical modeling oscillator
- Vector synthesis capabilities
- Updated filter models
- 300 demo presets included
Currently, the plugin does not include an arpeggiator or sequencer, as these features will be added based on user feedback during the beta phase.
Special Pricing During Beta
U-he has also announced the official pricing for Zebra 3, offering an introductory price of 179€ instead of the regular price of 249€. This discount is available for all users during the beta phase. Additionally, existing Zebra Legacy license holders can upgrade to Zebra 3 for 30€, while those who own both Zebra 2 and The Dark Zebra can upgrade for free.
To download the public beta, users can visit the KVR Audio Forum and get a license card that allows them to participate in testing without needing to own the full version. As the beta progresses, U-he plans to introduce more presets and improvements.
Keep an eye out for updates as U-he aims for an official release later this year. The development of Zebra 3 marks a significant step forward in modular synthesis, and it promises to be a powerful tool for sound designers and music producers.
