CB Sounddesign has released tools.cbsound.de, a collection of 32 free audio and MIDI tools that run entirely in a web browser. The suite includes sample mapping, generative sequencers, and hardware editors. All tools work without installation, and no audio ever leaves your machine.

What’s Inside the Collection

The tools cover a wide range of tasks. Eight of them form a complete workbench for DecentSampler, the free sampler plugin. They automate mapping, front panel design, and preset comparison. Another ten are generative sequencers that send MIDI to hardware synths via the Web MIDI API.

One standout is CB Ricochet, a brick-breaking arcade game rebuilt as a sequencer. Every brick hit sends a note from a chosen scale, while the paddle and walls play drums. It works as a game or a generative music tool.

There are also browser-based synthesizers, including a dual-oscillator synth and an ambient engine that renders to WAV. The remaining tools handle impulse response capture, batch WAV conversion, MIDI monitoring, and SysEx archiving.

Designed for Practical Workflows

Christian Bartrow, a sound designer with over 14 years in audio, built many of these tools as Python scripts for his own sessions. He then converted them to browser-based versions for wider use. The tools are designed to save time and reduce manual work.

For example, the DecentSampler tools read pitch, velocity layers, and round robins from filenames. They generate knob graphics and check mapping for gaps. This eliminates the need to write XML by hand.

Hardware Editors and Privacy

Three editors are included for specific units: the Boss SDE-3000D, JoMoX Mod FM, and Behringer BM-18M. They put every parameter on a single page, simplifying control. More editors are in development, including for units whose original software no longer runs on modern systems.

All tools run client-side. Nothing is uploaded to a server. You only need a browser with Web MIDI support, such as Chrome, Edge, Brave, or Firefox after a one-time permission prompt.

Pricing and Availability

The 32 tools are free and will remain free. An optional supporter pack on itch.io includes offline copies, three exclusive tools, 25 impulse responses, and extra datasets. This pack funds hosting but does not reduce the public site’s features.
