AcusMagic Sonicrama V2: Per-Key Tuning and GPU Cymatics

AcusMagic Sonicrama V2

AcusMagic has released Sonicrama V2, a wavetable synthesizer for macOS and Windows. This update brings a fresh approach to tuning and visual feedback. The instrument is available in AU, VST3, CLAP, and standalone formats. It combines four wavetable oscillators with per-key meta-tuning. Each of the 128 MIDI keys can carry its own tuning. As a result, you build a scale key by key rather than loading a static table.

Per-Key Meta-Tuning

The tuning system is a standout feature. You can derive tunings from ratios, equal divisions of the octave, or set them manually. For example, 31-EDO is supported. This flexibility is rare in commercial synths. Consequently, microtonal composers gain a powerful tool. Additionally, the NEXUS patchbay handles modulation routing. It offers Math, Ratio, and BWE follow modes. Moreover, LFOs and envelopes can modulate each other. In BWE mode, a frequency splits into a stereo pair with a controlled difference. This opens up complex, evolving textures.

GPU Cymatics Engine

Sonicrama V2 also includes a real-time cymatics engine. It runs on the GPU. Instead of analyzing the output spectrum, it solves the modal response of a vibrating plate. The result is drawn with 400,000 particles at 60fps. The Chladni figure on screen follows what you play. Holding a note and changing the plate alters the figure. A Lissajous 3D display is also included. These visuals are not just eye candy; they provide a direct, physical representation of the sound.

Features

  • 4 wavetable oscillators
  • Per-key meta-tuning across all 128 MIDI keys
  • NEXUS patchbay with Math, Ratio, and BWE follow modes
  • Modulation of modulator parameters by LFOs and envelopes
  • GPU cymatics engine with 400,000 particles at 60fps
  • Lissajous 3D display
  • AU, VST3, CLAP, and standalone
  • macOS 11 or later (Universal 2), Windows 10 21H2 or later (64-bit)

In terms of compatibility, the synth runs on modern systems. The GPU requirement for the cymatics engine is worth noting. However, the core synthesis works without it. The demo version is available for testing.

Price
Intro: €89.00 (until October 4th, 2026)
Regular: €129.00

Pros

  • Per-key meta-tuning across all 128 MIDI keys
  • GPU cymatics engine with 400,000 particles at 60fps
  • Modulation of modulators via NEXUS patchbay

Cons

  • GPU required for cymatics visualisation
  • Per-key tuning may have a learning curve
