GSi Piano Studio: Physical Modeling Grand Piano Plugin

GSi has released Piano Studio, a new virtual instrument that recreates the sound of a grand piano using physical modeling synthesis. This plugin is now available for Windows, macOS, and iOS platforms.

Physical Modeling Approach

Unlike sample-based libraries, Piano Studio generates its sound through complex real-time calculations. It replicates the mechanical assembly of a piano, including keys, hammers, strings, soundboard, and enclosure. This approach allows for virtually unlimited dynamics and long natural decays.

Moreover, users can modify parameters such as string damping, detuning, sympathetic resonances, and hammer hardness. Consequently, the sound can be refined or altered beyond the natural characteristics of a grand piano.

Piano Studio offers a comprehensive set of tools for shaping your sound. It includes 12 virtual microphones, 9 preamp types, and 6 ambience selections. Additionally, a built-in limiter/compressor, a 6-band visual equalizer with spectrum analyzer, and ping-pong delay and reverb are provided.

Furthermore, the plugin supports full polyphony, half-pedal and re-pedaling, and customizable velocity curves. A session recorder captures your performance and saves/loads SMF files. The program manager allows unlimited presets.
