Movimento Strings: Organic Chamber Library for Soundbox

Sonora Cinematic has recently announced the launch of Movimento Strings, a new chamber string library. This release is specifically designed to bring a refined cinematic string experience to Audiomodern’s Soundbox platform. Producers and composers who frequently utilize string libraries for film, television, or general cinematic music production often encounter a common challenge: long, sustained notes can sound overly static or unnaturally clean. Movimento Strings was developed precisely to tackle this prevalent issue, aiming to infuse sustained performances with natural, organic movement.
Addressing Static String Performance
At its core, Movimento Strings features a carefully recorded 12-piece ensemble. This ensemble comprises three first violins, three second violins, three violas, two celli, and one bass. The library’s design focuses intently on the subtle variations that characterize real string sections. For instance, it captures how players rebow at slightly different times, how dynamics gently fluctuate, and how tone colors constantly shift within sustained notes. Consequently, Movimento Strings delivers natural, living textures, which in turn add an enhanced sense of motion and realism to musical compositions. This meticulous attention to detail ensures a more expressive and authentic sound.
Unique Articulations for Natural Movement
The library offers four distinct articulations, each contributing to its organic sound palette. Firstly, Free Bowing allows individual musicians to rebow independently, rather than simultaneously. This creates a rich, blurred, and beautifully organic sound. Secondly, Free Bowing Slow employs the same independent bowing technique but with less frequent bow changes. This articulation is particularly suitable for slow, emotional cues and evolving harmonic beds. Furthermore, Free Bowing Flautando combines the independent bowing technique with flautando playing. Here, the bow is positioned closer to the fingerboard, resulting in an airy, delicate tone with a soft, flute-like character. Finally, the Dynamic articulation features each player performing independent crescendos and decrescendos on the same note. This process generates a beautifully undulating texture, where the sound continuously evolves even though the pitch remains constant.
Standard and Professional Editions Compared
Movimento Strings is available in two distinct versions to cater to different user requirements. The Standard Edition provides each of the four articulations rendered into a ready-to-play mix. This mix is designed to sound excellent straight out of the box. Users can simply load any of the twenty patches, which include single section and full ensemble options, and begin composing immediately. Conversely, the Professional Edition expands upon this by adding advanced tools. These include multiple microphone perspectives for each articulation, offering greater sonic control. Moreover, it features an ‘EXTRA’ performance pass, allowing users to effectively expand the ensemble with six additional players while maintaining a natural and organic sound.
Integration with Audiomodern Soundbox
It is important to note that Movimento Strings is specifically designed for Soundbox v1.2, Audiomodern’s customizable MPE sampler. This sampler is available for free download directly from the Audiomodern website. Furthermore, Soundbox supports a wide range of platforms, including Mac, Windows, and iOS, ensuring broad accessibility for users. Movimento Strings marks the initial chapter of a new four-part chamber strings series, indicating future expansions for this specialized library.Features
