Nyström Instruments has opened pre-orders for the HUM 2, a multi-timbral synthesizer that combines generative sequencing with expressive sensor control. The successor to the original HUM was first showcased at Superbooth 2026. It is now available for pre-order with a target shipping date of early November 2026.

Three Voices, Endless Possibilities

The HUM 2 features three independent voices. Each voice can run its own synthesis engine, melody, and parameter set. This architecture allows for complex textures and simultaneous sequences. Moreover, each voice is controlled via touchpads, which adds a tactile layer to performance.

Sensor Integration for Expressive Play

Six built-in sensors set the HUM 2 apart from typical synths. These include distance, light, tilt X/Y, and two touch sensors. You can map any sensor to any knob for real-time modulation. Consequently, the instrument responds to your physical gestures, making it ideal for live improvisation.

Diverse Synthesis Engines

The synth offers a wide range of synthesis modes. These include subtractive, FM, wavetable, organ, Karplus-Strong, formant, and experimental engines. As a result, you can cover everything from classic analog tones to futuristic soundscapes without needing additional gear.

Generative Sequencing and Modulation

Three independent 64-step sequencers let you create generative patterns or fixed loops. Generated notes are automatically quantized to one of 17 scale options. In addition, four LFOs can modulate any knob. The built-in delay, reverb, and overdrive each have independent sends, giving you plenty of sound-shaping options.

Connectivity and Presets

Connectivity includes three CV outputs, two CV inputs, sync in/out, MIDI in/out, headphone out, and L/R line outs. There is also MIDI and audio over USB. The HUM 2 stores up to 500 user patches, saving all sequencing, synthesis, sensor, and modulation data.
