Oxo Sample: Lo-Fi 12-Bit Sampler and Sequencer Plugin Released

Oxo Music has released Oxo Sample, a new lo-fi sampler, sequencer and drum machine plugin for macOS, Windows and iPad. The instrument is inspired by classic mid-80s hardware samplers and delivers a mono 12-bit signal at 32 kHz, complete with the crunchy character associated with that era.

Sampling and Live Editing

Audio can be recorded directly into a sample slot from any input, resampled from the plugin’s own output, or loaded from a file. In addition, the start, end and loop sliders operate live on the audio buffer. As a result, users can edit sample points while playing. For instance, placing the start point after the end point plays the sample in reverse.

Sequencer and Modulation

Each of the six sample slots includes its own sequencer with 8 patterns of up to 64 steps and 9 polymetric lanes, covering Gate, Hold/Legato, Pitch, Octave, Velocity, Length, Probability, and two Control lanes. Moreover, the Control lanes can sequence sampler parameters such as filters or start/end/loop points. Pattern changes can be launched across all six slots using 8 scenes.

Further sound-shaping tools include LPF and HPF filters, plus an LFO that can modulate pitch, filter or loop point, either free-running or retriggered. MIDI Learn, alternating stereo spread per voice, velocity mapping, and undo/redo (including audio edits) are also on board.
